The continent is split into political units, including Nubia and Zanzibar. It shows the entire continent of Africa, with Madagascar, the Arabian Peninsula, and the tip of Brazil. This map of Africa is based on Gastaldi's eight-sheet wall map of 1564 and Mercator's world map of 1569. The map was one of the first widely-disseminated, modernized maps of Africa and it became the standard map of the continent until well into the seventeenth century.
